Thermoset molding

Thermosets, also known as thermosetting plastics, were the first polymer materials to be molded on a widespread basis. However, modern material technology and processing techniques have made thermoset molding far from obsolete. Thermosets offer a light weight, cost effective option when designing metal replacements. Their heat tolerance and stability make thermoset plastics ideal for electrical or automotive underhood enclosures.

Parkway Products has over 50 years of thermoset molding expertiese, and can assist in the design, material selection and mold making processes to ensure consistent, quality results. Parkway EMP houses a full portfolio of thermoset molding capabilites, including injection molding, compression molding, transfer molding, insert molding, and a host of in-house secondary operations, including machining, drilling, tapping and deflashing.

Parkway EMP Thermoset Molding Capabilities
Thermoset Injection Molding
Thermoset injection molding is similar in process to standard plastic injection molding. Thermoset injection offers the lowest processing time with the lowest amount of flash. It also offers the ability to mold the most intricate, precision parts out of thermoset materials.

Parkway EMP Thermoset Injection Molding Capabilities
  • Press size up to 230 tons
  • Insert molding
  • Mold design & maintenance
Thermoset Injection Molding
Thermoset Compression Molding
Thermoset compression molding allows the maximum capabilites of the material to show through in finished parts. Its process allows the longest fiber length and is ideal for larger sized, structural parts.

Parkway EMP Thermoset Compression Molding Capabilities
  • Press size up to 500 tons
  • Insert molding
  • Vacuum assisted molding
  • In-house deflashing and machining
  • Mold design & maintenance

Thermoset Transfer Molding
Transfer molding bridges the gap between the capabilities of injection and compression molding. Transfer molding allows for longer fiber lengths than in injection molding, but with more precision and less flash than compression molding.

Parkway EMP Thermoset Transfer Molding Capabilities
  • Press size up to 250 tons
  • Insert molding
  • In-house deflashing and machining
  • Mold design & maintenance

Secondary Operations
Parkway EMP offers a host of secondary operations to support any thermoset molding program.

Parkway EMP Secondary Thermoset Operations
  • Deflashing
  • Drilling
  • Tapping
  • Machining
  • Painting
