Phenolic
Phenolic resins offer cost effective molding while delivering outstanding heat, flame, steam, UV radiation, moisture and chemical resistance. Phenolics have a reputation for long term dimensional stability, surface hardness, rigidity and minimal creep, making them the ideal choice for applications requiring high ratings for electrical arc and isolation, superior strength at elevated temperatures and surface abrasion resistance.
MOLDING
Injection molding is the most common method used to process and it yields the lowest piece price for extended runs. Compression molding is also used to process Phenolics. Compression molding is most commonly used for applications requiring metal inserts. Transfer molding is also widely practiced.
CHEMICAL RESISTANCE
Phenolics are resistant to common organic solvents (aromatic or aliphatic, polar or nonpolar, aqueous solutions of salt and halogenated organics such as carbon tetrachloride and trichloroethane (common cleaning solvents). Phenolics are also highly resistance to automotive fluids such as brake fluid, antifreeze, glycol/petro-chemicals/hydrocarbons - including methanol and some acids and bases.

THERMAL PERFORMANCE
Phenolics excel in retention of mechanical properties up to 400°F (200°C) and glass transition temperatures of over 572°F (300°C) with proper post curing. Phenolics have a high arc resistance and UL V-O recognition. Many grades also have a high self-ignition temperature (about 1112°F/600°C), a high limiting oxygen index (40-49% 02), low smoke emission and low coefficient of linear thermal expansion.PHYSICAL & MECHANICAL PROPERTIES
Phenolics offer excellent dimensional stability under thermal cycling and high stress conditions, as well as, low water absorption and high surface harness. Phenolics are available in high impact grades with notched Izod impact strengths to 20 ft.-lb./in. (1067J/m), high compressive strength and low creep under bolt loads, fatigue resistance at elevated temperatures and thermal expansion coefficients similar to metals.
